British Standards
BSI Group, also known in its home market as the British Standards Institution (or BSI), is a multinational business services provider whose principal activity is the production of standards and the supply of standards-related services.

Many of the standards which are central to the work of Infodoc Services Ltd. are both British Standards and ISO standards. These are listed under ISO standards.
Guide to terminology work
BSI has published a guide to terminology work:
BS 8430:2005
Terminology work – Fundamentals made simple
The BSI Construction vocabulary – BS 6100
BS 6100 is a terminology project to which Infodoc Services Ltd made a major contribution.
Building and civil engineering spans an enormous range of activities from harbour works to housebuilding and includes rapidly developing technologies as well as traditional methods that are centuries old. The terminology that has grown up to describe and specify construction has been inconsistent and, in some cases, misleading. However for the first time ever, people working in all branches of the construction industry now have a coherent and up-to-date set of terms that can be used in their work without fear of ambiguity. This vocabulary brings together approximately 8000 standard definitions in 12 inter-related publications plus an index.
The function of a vocabulary is to provide standard meanings for terms so that communication on a particular subject is easier and more precise. Unlike a dictionary, which lists all the known uses of a term, a vocabulary selects specific uses for terms in a particular context and provides standard definitions.
The British Standard Institution (BSI) committees that prepared the definitions for this vocabulary have been able to draw on expert advice from all branches of the industry and have agreed clear distinctions between the meanings of terms that could previously have been confused. The committees have reduced the many instances of more than one term being used for the same thing by stating clearly which term is preferred. The relationship between terms has been examined and definitions reveal the hierarchy of concepts. The vocabulary makes it clear which, of a group of terms, is the head term with the broader meaning that should be used when referring to all the more specialized terms within the group.
BSI has completely revised all previously published glossaries in the construction field, taking into account, and contributing to, the International Standards Organization's vocabularies for construction and the discussions on building and civil engineering terminology in the European Standards body (CEN). Topics that have not previously been the subject of BSI glossaries, such as airport engineering, railway engineering, signs and signing, environmental and physical planning have been included, as well as subjects with rapidly increasing technologies such as finishes and jointing.
BS 6100 now represents the most complete terminology of modern construction practice available in English and should be regarded as a prime source of controlled terminology for communication and translation in building and civil engineering.
